If you had a foster he would not have gone to the shelter? I also thought that they don't euthanize. Is the worry he will be reactive because he's scared? I would like to know further requirements to foster. I feel though it's hard enough to adopt so long as I lm a caregiver living with my elderly mother. I want to feel a dog is safe at the shelter from situations that will call for beilng euthanized.

Currently, all of the local shelters are over capacity. Most shelters are asking people to hold onto dogs they find, if possible, and just submit a report about the lost dog. I don’t know of any shelter in Western Washington that is saying they will euthanize dogs because they are out of room, but it is a possibility. They can’t just keep accepting dogs forever if they are full.

The easy dogs get adopted first. Bruce is a great dog, friendly and happy. However, he did bark at us at first, and he was slow to warm up, which only makes sense when he doesn’t know us. We were not intimidated, and we knew he was just expressing his discomfort, which is his right. He is pretty hefty, maybe 80 pounds, and looks like he might be a pit bull mix. Pit bulls have a bad reputation, unfairly, through no fault of theirs. Some landlords still discriminate against them. It just might be harder for Bruce to find an adopter than if he were a Yorkie or a Poodle. I love big mutts. No offense to Fozzie. Bruce is exactly the sort dog I would want, if I wasn’t already at capacity. I would certainly recommend Bruce to the right person, but they would have to know that they need to treat him with Calming Signals and give him every chance to be the good dog he is. With the wrong person, Bruce might get into trouble. He’s not a dog that could be adopted by just anyone. I hope the right person finds him.
