May they find the best homes; hopefully together, but apart is ok too as long as they are loved and safe for life. How can it be that we are so different from some, who don’t know or care what it means to love and be loved. You all did good.
I know how tough that decision is to leave but know they will be back at the recognized spot! My wife and I did so many orphaned and injured babies that were successfully released back to the wild! But the hunting dogs around my area are left by hunters who don’t feel the need to chip them or have a tag on them! I had spent a week trying to get him in my have a heart trap! He just got lss e’s sry around it!
I finally got him by coaxing day after day. But it was short lived as he broke a brand new collar, then the plastic coated lees we were going to take him to a rescue place that special cases need to go! They have no basic training whatsoever! That night he broke the lees, I went out looking for him! He found me, running full sped into my left knee, I now need a replacement as the shear force of him running into me actually knocked the upper and lower leg bone in opposer directions. The dog went to someone who works with them. I have a farm, but I also have 6 cats, so no good! I’m hoping to get my knee replacement soon, it will bring back that face that was so happy and high strung!
You all did an amazing job. Leaving them that night was the right thing to do in my opinion. If you had taken Robin, Batman would have been killed trying to follow you like you said. There was no selfish abandonment. It was out of care and knowledge of rescuing that you made the decision to let both go for the night. You left water and food which the previous people that abandoned them did not. They knew you would be back. You all did this for the right reasons, and it paid off. They are safe and you all gave them hope for human kindness and love. Thank you
I think you're right that dogs don't realise they've been abandoned and keep waiting for their humans to come back for them. That's why they stay close by or keep returning - so heartbreaking.
With one of the abandoned dogs that we adopted, when we were out walking, she'd stop suddenly sometimes, then race towards someone she thought she recognised, only to stop again halfway, because it wasn't someone she knew after all - it wasn't the face she'd been waiting to see.
I've always thought part of her hoped to find her original family again, if only so she could know they were still alive.
She looked so sad and lost each time that I almost couldn't bear it. I didn't hug her or comfort her, much as I wanted to - maybe I should have, but it felt like intruding somehow. I just stayed quietly with her till she looked away.
UBS Volunteers are amazing. You knew the right thing to do, and your gut told you the team would be able to catch both dogs the next day. It would be amazing if they could get adopted together. But I have a good feeling that whoever adopts them. Will not dump them. But it is already clear they both are capable of becoming someone's friend. So, I am sure they will become someone's best friend.
Abandoning a dog is a heinous act. My family has rescued several abandoned dogs, each of whom became an amazing friend.
Thanks to all your team members for saving these two lovely spirits. I hope they can be “forever homed” together . They have suffered enough!
What an amazing story! Tears streaming down my face as I'm reading it. Thank you and your team for all you do!
