Outstanding information! A couple things I’d like to offer:

When my cat slipped out of a carelessly opened door, I spent two weeks walking the neighborhood for him. Through word of mouth I discovered a cat that looked like him was visiting a neighbor who fed a small colony of cats in her backyard. With permission, we set a trap and caught him. He looked entirely different. He was bedraggled, dirty and nothing like his usual self. Don’t be surprised if kitty looks very different.

We’ve had cases here recently where cats have disappeared and shown up miles from home. An owner had an air tag on his cat and saw where he was on another side of town. With help, he tracked it down. Another one also discovered her cat in a neighborhood far away. In both cases, the cats were within a block of one another. This was all documented on the Ring app. Don’t discount malicious cat-hating people.

And lastly, a scam has surfaced with people calling and claiming the cat has been injured and they’re a veterinarian or at a vet’s office and kitty is going into surgery, but they need cash to pay for the treatment. Don’t fall for it.

Thanks for the tips! They’re great!

Thank you so much for your excellent service. I found this to be most helpful:

"Ask neighbors to check their doorbell cameras and surveillance cameras. In some recent cases, it appears that the lost cat must have walked in front of dozens of surveillance cameras and WiFi cameras."

Getting people to check cameras and place out feeding stations nearby is going to require a major push in a need educational effort to find lost cats. I recently found a cat who had been missing for four months in a wildlife creek where there are lots of coyotes. Only reason I found him is because I was using trail cameras and searching for my cat. Took me a month to get him after feeding him everyday. They turn wild and smarter than foxes, avoiding traps.
